USA & Canada romp ahead from Americas sub-regional into regional finals

10 possible points from 5 victories each and 1 loss over the course of 6 games played during the tournament, is what both USA and Canada achieved during the double round-robin format for ICC World T20 Americas group “A” qualifiers involving Belize and Panama as well at Raleigh Cricket Club ground in Morrisville, North Carolina.

As was expected, both USA and Canada registered comprehensive wins in their matches against Belize and Panama. The two encounters between themselves turned out to be absolute thrillers and great advert for cricket in the North American region. The first match was won by Canada in a super-over after both countries finished on the same total at the end of their regulation 20 overs.

The 2nd encounter was as thrilling as the first with USA returning the favour with a last over win from a nearly dead situation, thanks to an amazing display of power-hitting by Steven Taylor.

Belize and Panama also had close encounters in the two matches between themselves and bodes well for both the countries when they again take on each other in 2019 Central American Championships. Both registered a win each against each other to finish their campaign with atleast one victory in an ICC global tournament.

USA and Canada thus join Bermuda and Cayman Islands in the Americas regional finals for qualification towards global qualifiers for 2020 ICC World T20 and with uniform T20I status becoming effective from 01st Jan 2019 onwards for all men’s International T20 matches between all members under ICC, the regional finals will see all matches contested with official T20I status.
