USA Squad and Fixtures announced for Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament

USA men’s national team will travel to Antigua shortly to take part in Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament. With Canada being involved in ICC WCL Division 2, there was no ICC Americas team set to take part this year as it has in the previous editions and Cricket West Indies invited USA to participate.

Team USA will join the six CWI franchises (Barbados Pride, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Windward Island Volcanoes, Jamaica Scorpions, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Guyana Jaguars), Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners and two English county sides, Hampshire and Kent. USA is in the same group as Jamaica Scorpions, Guyana Jaguars, Kent & Leeward Islands Hurricanes.

Chairman of Selectors, Ricardo Powell said: “Upon return from Abu Dhabi and Oman, we were keen to develop our batting unit and Coach has been working very closely with small groups of national players over the past several weeks to fine tune our skills in this department. I’am confident the group selected will wear the red, white and blue with pride both on and off the field.”

There are notable inclusions in the USA squad as due to changes in the players eligibility rules by ICC, 2 former India U-19 players, Saurabh Netravalkar (part of 2010 ICC U-19 World Cup squad) and Sunny Sohal (has played IPL for Kings XI Punjab & now defunct Deccan Chargers) and ex-West Indies International, Xavier Marshall in the squad.

The new ICC guidelines state that a player becomes eligible to represent a new country after 3 years of residency. Also, the stipulation that a maximum of two such players can be selected in any starting XI who have been resident for a minimum of 3/4 years but not yet seven years, has been eliminated.
