A career that has lasted 18 years in South Africa and Netherlands has come to an end as Netherlands wicket-keeper Wesley Barresi has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, effective 15th February 2021. Barresi shared his retirement post on his social media account on twitter.

Barresi started his age-group cricket in South Africa and represented Easterns Cricket at U/15, U/19 and U/23 level, as he made his first-class and List-A debut for Easterns in 2004. After deciding to represent Netherlands, he made his ODI debut in 2010 against Scotland in the World Cricket League, and his T20I debut in 2012 against Canada.

Wesley Barresi was part of Netherlands squad in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup in India, and in 2014 ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and 2016 ICC T20 World Cup in India. Barresi was also an integral part of Netherlands squad in ICC World Cricket League (WCL), where he played in 41 matches and in ICC Intercontinental Cup (I-Cup) tournaments, where he played in 18 matches. Barresi’s last International appearance for the Dutch in both T20I and ODI formats came during Zimbabwe’s tour of Netherlands in June 2019.

A wicket-keeper by profession, Barresi did roll his arm over in the later part of his career and has picked up 3 wickets in First-class cricket, which came in an I-Cup game against Ireland in 2017 at Malahide.
