Whatmore to re-join Baroda once Ranji season starts

Current Nepal national set-up head coach Dav Whatmore will be available to coach the Baroda state national team in the next edition of Ranji Trophy, the first-class domestic competition played in India.

The Times of India article stated that the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has been in touch with Dav Whatmore, after he couldn’t fly down to India due to some visa issues. Whatmore confirmed his stint with Nepal Cricket Board during that time, and is now in Nepal to oversee day-to-day operations.

Whatmore had informed the BCA management in December last year that he won’t take up the assignment due to visa/immigration embargo on travelling to India on business visa due to Covid restrictions on travel. BCA had roped in Whatmore during April 2020, and were even successful in holding an online coaching session in July with him.

Whatmore is current taking stock of his available resources in Nepal’s domestic cricket circuit, where he saw the players in action in the past couple of months in tournaments played in the 50-overs format.

The Ranji Trophy will most likely not take place in 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic situation, whereas when BCCI asked the state associations on their choice of events that could be played in 2021, the confidential poll resulted in most giving their nod to Vijay Hazare trophy (List-A domestic 50-overs) being played.
