Will Nepal dominate as expected in the Asia regional finals in Singapore?

International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the schedule for the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup Asia regional finals, to be hosted by Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) from Jul 22nd – 28th, 2019.

Host’s Singapore will compete against Nepal, Malaysia, Kuwait and Qatar for one of the two spots available for qualification from the Asia region into the Global Qualifiers, to be held in Oct/Nov 2019 in UAE. All matches in the regional finals will carry official T20I status and will count towards ranking points in the global T20I team rankings.

UAE and Nepal were involved in a bi-lateral series in Jan/Feb 2019, which included 3 T20I matches, while Kuwait and Qatar played their first T20I matches in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Western Region T20, held in Jan 2019 in Oman. Malaysia and Nepal also played a 2-match T20I series prior to travelling to Singapore for the qualifiers, while Qatar hosted Kuwait for a 3-match T20I series to prepare for the tournament.

All matches will be played at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore, where recently the SCA’s Elite player series took place, in which Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh participated along with players from Botswana and Uganda. As previously announced that Malaysia were expected to host the qualifiers and UAE were set to participate before the ICC board meetings held in Mar 2019, UAE have automatically qualified for the Global qualifiers as the host’s and don’t have to go through the regional finals.
