Guernsey Cricket to host U19 World Cup Europe Division 2 qualifiers in August 2022

Guernsey Cricket will be hosting the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup Europe division 2 qualifiers from August 03rd – 12th, 2022. A total of eight (8) Associate member countries will be competing in the tournament, with two (2) groups comprising of four (4) teams playing in a single round-robin format, following which the top two (2) teams from each group will advance to the semifinals stage. The bottom four (4) teams will also compete in the position play-off matches. The two finalists and the winner of the third-place playoff will all progress to join Jersey, the Netherlands and Scotland in the Europe Qualifier – the second and final stage in the region’s qualification pathway, which will be held in 2023.

All matches will be played across four (4) venues in Guernsey, with each match-day to feature four (4) games, including the knock-out stages and the play-off’s. The U19 qualifiers are not part of ICC’s live-streaming arrangements with IMG Media, however a videographer will be contracted to produce highlights, match clips and other editorial content for the tournament. All the teams will be accommodated at the St Pierre Park hotel in Guernsey during the entire duration of the tournament, with ICC covering all the accommodation costs.

The previous Division 2 qualifiers was held in 2018 in the UK between nine (9) member countries, from which Netherlands U19, France U19 and Denmark U19 qualified for Division 1 qualifiers. This year’s event will see U19 team’s from Sweden, Denmark, Isle of Man, Norway, France, Italy and Germany travel to Guernsey. One group will consist of teams from Sweden, Denmark, Isle of Man and Norway, while the second group will consist of teams from France, Italy and Germany alongside the host’s Guernsey. Teams from Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark have played competitive games in the build-up to the tournament, and will look forward to continue with their progress from the opening day of the competition.
