For the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 qualification pathway, Scotland will enter directly into the Europe Regional Final, recognising the exceptional circumstances surrounding its participation in the 2026 tournament. The remaining teams that competed at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 but did not secure automatic qualification will advance directly to the Global Qualifier. The other eight (8) places in the Global Qualifier will be filled through regional qualification, with two (2) teams each qualifying from Africa, Asia and Europe, and one team each from the Americas and East Asia-Pacific regions.
The highest placed team from each region at the Global Qualifier, together with the next three (3) highest-placed teams overall, will qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, subject to minimum performance criteria.
The teams that have directly qualified for the Global Qualifier are Netherlands, Nepal, Italy, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Namibia, United States of America, Canada and Papua New Guinea (EAP Qualifier winner).
The new marquee tournament has been endorsed by the Board after being recommended by the ICC Development and Chief Executives’ Committees. However, it will be finally approved by the Board after review by ICC’s Finance & Commercial Affairs committee in the November meetings.

If Highest ranked team from each region at the Global Qualifier qualofies to wt20 2028 then as PNG is only tram from EAP region so wont it mean that they will qualify for wt20 eithout even winning a single game as they would be the highest rank team from EAP region and as tgey are only team from EAP so they are automatically qualified.
There’s a provision of “minimum qualification criteria” to avoid such situations
I suppose the easy and sensible way would have been to make winners of each region qualify for wt20 with 2nd and 3rd placed teams in each region Going to Global Qualifiers and remaning 3 spots for world cup could be decided through there.
It woulr have been better and more smaller teams inclusive if winners of each region(total 5) would have automatically qualifed and then the runners up and 3rd(or may be upto 4th) placed teams in each region qualifies to Global Qualifier from their remaning 3 spots could have been filled for wt20 2028.
This would have been better arrangement than that complicated math at Global Qualifier.
