Oman to host Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for T20 matches in October 2021

Oman Cricket (OC) will be hosting the men’s team from former ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions, Sri Lanka, for a 2-match T20I bi-lateral series in October 2021, and also play a solitary T20 game with the visiting team from Bangladesh from October 05th – 09th, 2021, before the start of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in Oman and United Arab Emirates from October 17th. This will be the first bi-lateral engagement between the two Cricket boards (Oman and Sri Lanka) in any format of the game, as reported by Times of Oman.

Sri Lanka, who are part of the first round group along with Ireland, The Netherlands and Namibia, will be using the series as preparations intensify for the World Cup, as they head to UAE to play the first round, while Oman will be hosting teams from Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and Scotland in the other first round group in the tournament. The two T20I matches will be played at the OC Ground 1 in Al Amerat on October 07th and 09th, while the match with Bangladesh will take place on October 08th with the Omani “A” team.

The previous time Oman met a representative side from Sri Lanka was during the 2019 Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Nations Asia Cup tournament held in Bangladesh, where Oman registered a win over Sri Lanka U23 side in their List-A one-day game during the group stages of the competition. Both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play an official warm-up game as well as part of the customary two practice games for participating countries in every ICC marquee events.
