Japan Men and Women to play bi-lateral T20I series ahead of Asian Games

Japan Cricket Association (JCA) have scheduled bi-lateral T20 International series (with ICC T20I team ranking points) for both their Men’s and Women’s Teams, in the lead-up to the upcoming Asian Games 2026 in September 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya. Fellow participant in the Women’s Cricket category at the Games, Malaysia Women, will be playing a three (3)-match T20I series against the hosts’, while the Men’s team will play a two (2)-match T20I series with Hong Kong-China.

All the matches across both these series will be taking place at the Sano International Cricket ground (Korogi Athletic Park ground will be the venue for the Games), and it will help Malaysia Women and Hong Kong-China Men’s teams to acclimatize with the conditions in Japan, ahead of the Games.

Romania Cricket to host Women’s Continental Cup in August 2026

Cricket Federation of Romania will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Turkiye, Austria, Isle of Man, Guernsey, Greece, Czechia and Norway in the Women’s Continental Cup tournament from August 26th – 30th, 2026, at the Moara Vlasiei cricket ground ovals in Bucharest. This edition will the fourth (4th) overall for the Women’s Continental Cup, with Norway Women being the Defending Champions from the previous edition held last year. With eight (8) teams participating this year, it becomes the highest number of entries recorded in all the editions held to this date.

The teams have been divided into two (2) groups of four (4) each, and the tournament will follow a single round-robin group stage format, following which, the top team in both the groups will compete in the Final, along with the runners-up from both the groups competing in the 3rd/4th Play-off game.

European T20 Premier League 2026 kicks off a promising future

The inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) is set to usher in a new era for franchise cricket in Europe, with six city-based teams from Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands competing for the first ETPL title. The ETPL is being organised by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) and will feature a mix of established international T20 stars and some of Europe’s leading cricketers from other Associate member countries in the region.

The tournament will run from 26 August to 20 September 2026, with the opening phase taking place at Voorburg in the Netherlands before the competition moves to Malahide in Ireland for the latter stages.

The inaugural ETPL will feature six (6) franchises, with two (2) teams representing each of the three (3) founding cricket boards.

Ireland: Belfast Wolves, Dublin Guardians

Scotland: Edinburgh Castle Rockers, Glasgow Cosmic

Netherlands: Amsterdam Flames, Rotterdam Dockers

The six (6) teams will compete in a double round-robin league, with every franchise facing each of the other five (5) teams twice. At the end of the league stage, the team finishing first will qualify directly for the Final, while the teams finishing second and third will meet in the Qualifier. The winner of the Qualifier will join the league table topper in the Final.

Cricket Namibia to host South Africa and Zimbabwe for T20I Tri-series and ODI series in August 2026

Cricket Namibia (CN) will be hosting the Men’s National teams of South Africa and Zimbabwe for a T20 International Tri-series tournament (with ICC T20I team ranking points) from August 15th – September 06th, 2026, at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground. South Africa will stay back after the completion of the T20I Tri-series, to play a three (3)-match One-day International bi-lateral series with Namibia, which will the first time the two (2) teams will be meeting in the longer format of the while ball game.

Having hosted South African team for a one-off T20I game last year, this arrangement further strengthens the relationship between the three (3) co-host’s of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, who are also part of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA).

Malaysia Cricket to host 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub-regional Qualifier A in October 2026

Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Thailand, Bhutan, Mongolia and Myanmar for the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub-regional Qualifier A tournament from October 03rd – 15th, 2026. All the teams will be playing against each other in a single round-robin group stage format, following which, the top teams will advance to the Asia Final (how many qualification spots, whether two (2) or three (3), will be announced in due course of time.

As per the new qualification pathway designed by International Cricket Council (ICC), the Asia Qualifier will have two (2) qualification spots on offer, into the Global Qualifier.

Latvia Cricket to host Men’s Baltic Cup in August 2026

Latvia Cricket Federation (LCF) will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Estonia, Lithuania and Poland in the Annual Men’s Baltic Cup T20 tournament on August 29th and 30th, 2026, at the Infinity oval ground. The Annual event has been taking place in Estonia since it’s inception, and this will be first time of the event getting hosted in another nation.

Teams of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, who are currently non-members with the International Cricket Council (ICC), have played a good amount of International cricket within themselves this year, with Latvia and Poland meeting each other in August itself, during the Amber Cup Tri-series tournament.

Rwanda Cricket to host 3rd edition of ILT20 Continent Cup in September 2026

Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Kenya, Botswana, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda, in what will be the biggest participation in the ILT20 Continent Cup tournament till date, in the overall third (3rd) edition of the event, from September 01st – 13th, 2026, at the Gahanga International Cricket stadium ovals in Kigali. Uganda Men are the Defending Champions from the previous edition held in 2024, having also won the inaugural edition held in 2023.

All the teams in the tournament will play against each other in a single round-robin group stage format, following which, the top four (4) teams in the points table will advance to the semifinals stage. The tournament will provide opportunity to the likes of Uganda and Nigeria, ahead of the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier C in Lagos in October 2026.

Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Uganda, Zambia, Gambia, Mozambique and Lesotho in the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier C tournament from October 18th – 23rd, 2026, at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos. The teams will be competing against each other in a single round-robin group stage format, following the conclusion of which, the top two (2) teams in the points table will advance to the Africa Qualifier, which will take place in 2027.

As per the revamped pathway structure for the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the top two (2) teams from the Africa Qualifier will qualify for the Global Qualifier in 2028. The 2 teams from Sub-regional Qualifier C will join Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana in the Africa Qualifier.

Asian Games 2026 Cricket Schedule announced

How many teams will play cricket at Asian Games 2026

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (AINAGOC) will be hosting the sports discipline of Cricket during the 2026 Asian Games programme, to be co-hosted by Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and its capital Nagoya from September 19th – October 04th, 2026. The qualifying tournaments for both Men’s and Women’s competitions were organized by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in May and June 2026.

Women’s National teams of Thailand, Malaysia and China qualified through the Qualifier held in Malaysia in May 2026, while Men’s National teams of Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong-China and Oman qualified through the Qualifier held in Singapore in June 2026.

Asian Games 2026 cricket teams and tournament format

The Women’s event will take place from September 17th – 22nd, with all teams starting directly in a knock-out format in the quarterfinals. The Men’s event will be taking place from September 24th – October 03rd, 2026. The Finalists and the winner of the 3rd/4th play-off in both Men’s and Women’s events will get the medals. The groupings for both Men’s and Women’s competitions will be taking place by a Team draw on 23rd July 2026.

The previous edition of Asian Games in Hangzhou, which featured cricket as a medal discipline, did not see any participation from any Gulf region cricket boards, due to player eligibility rules of Regional Games, which are different to ICC eligibility rules. Hence, As per the discussion held in 2024 between the Associate Cricket boards in the Gulf region (UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain), all countries will be developing their own Squads made up of Nationals, with the intention to field them in future Asian Games or Olympics (if there is any qualification events for that). Best players from these squads will also be integrated in the senior squad for ICC events as well. Bi-lateral series will happen for the Nationals squads every now and then and also plans are on the table for Gulf region tournament for all Nationals squads of each member.

Men’s National Teams of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have got direct entries into the quarterfinals stage, while the Qualifiers and Afghanistan will have to compete in the group stages to claim the four (4) spots into the quarterfinal stage.

Tanzania Cricket to host 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in August 2026

Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) will be hosting the U19 Women’s National teams of Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Nigeria, in the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier from August 30th – September 05th, 2026, at the TCA Cricket Arena in University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). The eight (8) nations will be competing for the lone qualification spot available from this tournament, into the main event in Bangladesh and Nepal, early next year. Nigeria U19 Women are the Defending Champions from the previous edition of the Africa Qualifier, after they qualified as a result of finishing above Zimbabwe in group stage, with the Final getting abandoned due to rain.

Kenya and Malawi teams have qualified in this tournament, after finishing as the winner and runners-up during the Division 2 qualifier tournament, which took place in Uganda in March this year.
