Cricket Ireland have announced their 14-member Women’s national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup European Qualifier to take place in La Manga in Spain between 26th – 31st August 2021. Ireland Women’s squad will be competing for one qualification spot into the global qualifiers along with teams from Scotland, Netherlands, Germany, France and Turkey.
All the teams will play each other in a single round-robin group stage format during the competition. The tournament provides a unique opportunity for the likes of Germany, France and Turkey to be playing against a full member nation for the first time in an ICC event, which will be live streamed by ICC and IMG as per the deal announced earlier this year.
Ireland Women have already played bi-lateral T20I series against Scotland Women and Netherlands Women in June and July respectively, leading into the Qualifiers. The players are also playing in the Arachas Super Series matches to stay in the playing momentum without any undue breaks due to COVID-19 pandemic.
