Canada squad announced for 2nd round of Challenge League Group A

Cricket Canada have announced the 14-member men’s national squad for the 2nd round of ICC CWC Challenge League Group A tournament, to be hosted by Malaysia from Mar 18th – 26th, 2020. Canada are currently leading the points table along with Singapore with 4 wins in the first round of the Championship, also hosted by Malaysia in 2019.

Canada will be competing against Vanuatu, Singapore, Qatar, Denmark and host’s Malaysia, as all the countries in the Championship have 10 more List-A matches remaining, at the conclusion of which, the top team in the standings will advance to the Challenge League Qualifiers play-off tournament, where the top team from Challenge League Group B and the bottom 4 team’s from CWC League 2 Championship will join them and compete for the final 2 spots into the 2022 ICC CWC Qualifiers.

Canada Squad

Navneet Dhaliwal (Captain), Shahid Ahmedzai, Nikhil Dutta, Romesh Eranga, Faizal Jamkhandi, Armaan Kapoor, Abraash Khan, Nitish Kumar, Salman Nazar, Varun Sehdev, Ravinderpal Singh, Harsh Thaker, Srimantha Wijeyeratne and Saad bin Zafar

The senior squad members, who took a break during the Windies Super50 tournament, that started very closely after Canada finished their campaign at ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in UAE, are back in the squad. The likes of Nitish Kumar, Shahid Ahmedzai and Harsh Thaker took part in the Super50 tournament and put up some impressive performances, which was Canada’s last International assignment in 2019.

Navneet Dhaliwal and Nitish Kumar have been in good form in 2019, which resulted in both being in the top 15 list of Associate member batsmen in terms of total runs scored across all formats. Faizal Jamkhandi was one of the top performers for Canada U19 in the 2018 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, and he along with Romesh Eranga will form the pace attack, as the bowling department is more spin-heavy this time around than the previous round.
