Cricket ground in Spain gets ODI accreditation from ICC

Desert Springs Cricket ground in Almeria, Andalucia, south-east Spain, has been awarded ODI accreditation by International Cricket Council (ICC), Cricket Espana announced in their official press release.

The ground, located at Desert Springs resort contains an international size world-class grass match ground constructed to ECB standards and specifications, complimented by a marquee pavilion, sight-screens, scoreboard and associated facilities with an eighteen (18) wicket square, an academy training ground with twenty-four grass practice wickets, an artificial wicket, along with requisite training equipment.

The ground met the criteria set by ICC for hosting ODI and T20I matches, and are hopeful of hosting International teams from the European region, when they tour Spain for pre-season camps or anytime during the year for playing matches or tournaments.

Over the years, English counties and other national teams have come to Spain for their pre-season camps.

Desert Springs Resort Sales & Marketing Manager, Simon Coaker said in the press release “Desert Springs Resort is delighted to have received this recognition from the ICC. We are aware that having ICC ODI accreditation, and being able to host matches at any time of the year, puts us in a unique position in the northern hemisphere. We look forward to continuing to work with both Cricket España and the ICC to attract the highest level of international cricket to Spain and to assist in the development of what is already a growing sport in this part of the world.”

Cricket España are scheduled to host the European regional finals tournament for qualification towards ICC T20 World Cup global qualifiers in 2021.
