Guernsey to host Exhibition T20 game as Phase 4 of Lockdown Exit Strategy begins

Guernsey Cricket is all set to organize a T20 exhibition game on 30th May 2020, to showcase that the sport can be played safely in accordance to International Cricket Council (ICC) guidelines, as the British Isles country enters phase four of the lock-down exit strategy.

Guernsey Cricket Board (GCB) submitted their proposal for the exhibition game to local public health officials with the guidelines of safety measures to be taken in order to host the T20 game at the KGV, and have got the necessary approvals for the same. The match will be played between the senior members of the Guernsey national squad and will also involve couple of U19 players as well.

Some of the safety measures being taken include the use of 2 balls (One from each end) for the game, which the umpires will sterilize at the end of each over (Umpires will also be wearing gloves for the entire duration of the game). The Wicket-keeper is not allowed to stand within 2 metres of the batsman and the non-striker will also be 2 metres away from the umpire and bowler, which will be achieved by where the batsman will stand on the next strip to back up.

The match will begin at 11am local time and will be live streamed on Guernsey Cricket’s Facebook page and European Cricket Network’s YouTube channel. The previous T20I tournament played by Guernsey senior squad members were during the ICC T20 World Cup Europe regional finals held in Guernsey in Jun 2019 and Inaugural T20I Inter-Insular series against Jersey. The last competitive International match was played against Channel Islands neighbors Jersey in the traditional 50-overs game in the Annual Inter-Insular Trophy.

Squads

Olly Tapp’s XI: Tom Nightingale, Jason Martin (Captain), Nick Hutchinson, Ben Ferbrache, Nathan Le Tissier, Luke Bichard, Will Peatfield, Tom Veillard, Matt Philp, Charles Vorster and Jordon Martel

Andy Cornford’s XI: Lucas Barker, Zak Damarell, Josh Butler (Captain), Jamie Nussbaumer, Ollie Newey, Luke Le Tissier, Dan Le Messurier, Ant Stokes, Matt Renouf, Nic Buckle and Kieran Le Gallez

The Exhibition game will provide the Cricket Board the opportunity to showcase that the game can be played with the ICC regulations and with safety measures in place, and hopefully get the necessary arrangements in place to start the domestic season for men’s. Whether the PraxisFM Channel Islands League can start for 2020 remains to be seen, as it also involves the clubs from Jersey.

The match will see the domestic players also get the chance to show their skills on live streaming across the globe. Here are some of the stats of the players in PraxisFM Channel Islands League 2019.
