Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) will be hosting the third (3rd) and the final round 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League Group B from August 08th – 17th, 2026, at the University of Dar es Salaam Ground 1 and Ground 2 in Dar-es-Salaam. TCA will host the Men’s National teams of Bahrain, Hong Kong-China, Italy, Singapore and Uganda in the last of the three (3) scheduled rounds for both the groups, at the conclusion of which the top two (2) teams from both the groups will advance to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off tournament.

Uganda and Italy are well placed in the group after the conclusion of the first two (2) rounds, with Hong Kong, China being the next closest competitor to both, with Bahrain at a very distant fourth place. If both Uganda and Italy manage a good third (3rd) round and finish the group in top two (2) spots, then they will become the 26th and 27th Team to play Men’s ODI status matches (Jersey became the 25th Nation after the previous cycle of CWC Challenge League) in the 2027 ICC CWC Qualifier play-off tournament. Host’s Tanzania and Singapore are already out of contention for a shot at the top 2 finish.

For the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 qualification pathway, Scotland will enter directly into the Europe Regional Final, recognising the exceptional circumstances surrounding its participation in the 2026 tournament. The remaining teams that competed at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 but did not secure automatic qualification will advance directly to the Global Qualifier. The other eight (8) places in the Global Qualifier will be filled through regional qualification, with two (2) teams each qualifying from Africa, Asia and Europe, and one team each from the Americas and East Asia-Pacific regions.

The highest placed team from each region at the Global Qualifier, together with the next three (3) highest-placed teams overall, will qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, subject to minimum performance criteria.

The teams that have directly qualified for the Global Qualifier are Netherlands, Nepal, Italy, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Namibia, United States of America, Canada and Papua New Guinea (EAP Qualifier winner).

The new marquee tournament has been endorsed by the Board after being recommended by the ICC Development and Chief Executives’ Committees. However, it will be finally approved by the Board after review by ICC’s Finance & Commercial Affairs committee in the November meetings.

The qualification pathway for the fourteen (14)-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 was confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC)

The qualification pathway for the fourteen (14)-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 was confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC) with ten (10) teams gaining automatic qualification. The ten (10) will comprise South Africa and Zimbabwe as Full Member host’s and the next eight (8) highest ranked teams on the ICC MRF Tyres ODI Rankings at the cut-off date of 31st March 2027. The remaining four (4) teams will qualify via the ICC CWC Global Qualifier set to take place in April/May 2027, which might see Namibia Men qualify to play in (depending upon their final finishing positions in the qualification pathway events), who are also co-hosting the event along with South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The top four (4) teams in the points table from CWC League 2 ODI Championship will qualify directly for the CWC Qualifier. They will be joined in the CWC Qualifier by four (4) teams coming through the CWC Qualifier Play-Offs as well as teams (2 of them) that don’t qualify automatically based on ICC ODI Rankings. The CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament (which will be played with ODI status) will comprise of the bottom four (4) teams in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship and the top two (2) teams from both Groups A and B from CWC Challenge League. The top four (4) teams in the Qualifier will then join the ten (10) direct qualifiers in the World Cup (Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe and the other top eight ranked teams) in the fourteen (14) team Cricket World Cup lineup.

The teams ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Qualifier will compete in a single round-robin group stage format in Round 1 in the World Cup, from which the Top team will advance to Round 2, which will have twelve (12) teams divided into two (2) groups of six (6) teams each. The top three (3) teams from both the groups, along with the next highest placed team across both groups qualify for the Super 7 stage. The Super 7 stage will be a single round-robin group stage format, following which the top four (4) teams will qualify for the Semifinals.

Cricket’s return to the Olympic Games after 128 years is no longer just about the excitement of being back on

Cricket’s return to the Olympic Games after 128 years is no longer just about the excitement of being back on the biggest sporting stage. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), LA28 Organising Committee and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have now outlined the qualification pathway, setting the stage for one of the most competitive races in Associate and Full Member cricket alike.

The men’s and women’s cricket competitions at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will each feature just six (6) teams, making qualification one of the toughest challenges in modern international cricket.

With only six (6) coveted spots available, every ICC tournament, bilateral series and ranking point over the coming months will carry enormous significance.

Six Teams. Ninety Athletes. One Olympic Dream.

Each competition will consist of six national teams, with every country allowed to name a 15-player squad, creating a total athlete quota of 90 players for both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

The limited field means several established cricketing nations could miss out entirely, while Associate nations enjoying rapid growth suddenly have a realistic opportunity to reach the Olympic stage.

How Teams Will Qualify

Under the qualification system, the host nation, the United States, receives automatic qualification provided it meets the eligibility requirements established by the ICC and IOC (T20I Team Ranking of 15 or better in the ICC T20I Men’s Team Rankings at any point of time during the qualification period until 31st December 2026 and as of 01st March 2027 for ICC T20I Women’s Team Rankings). An unused host country place (if USA Men or Women don’t finish in Top 15 or above at any point in time until 31st December 2026 and 01st March 2027 respectively) will be reallocated to the next highest placed eligible team, regardless of the continent, not yet qualified, as per the ICC T20 Men’s or Women’s Team Ranking.

A total of four (4) direct quota places will be allocated. These will be allocated to the highest-ranked eligible NOCs continentally (i.e. the top ranked NOCs from different continents – Europe, Africa and Asia and Oceania), taken from the ICC Men’s T20 Team Rankings on 31st December 2026, resulting in four (4) teams in total.

The next eight (8) highest -ranked eligible teams not yet qualified, based on the ICC Men’s T20 Team Rankings on 31st December 2026 will compete in the Qualifier for both Men’s and Women’s categories, to determine the final spot in the main event.

If the West Indies is ranked among the eight (8) highest-ranked teams not yet qualified, the ICC shall organise a West Indies Nations Regional Tournament to determine which NOC will represent the region at the Final Global Olympic Qualification Tournament or in the main event. As Great Britain takes part in the Olympics, only one British nation, England, will be considered as part of the quotas.

The qualification framework has been designed to align with the Olympic movement’s objective of global participation rather than simply selecting the highest-ranked cricket nations.

Olympic Tournament Format

Once the qualification procedure concludes, the six (6) participating teams will be divided into two (2) groups of three (3). Each side will first play the other two (2) teams in its group before progressing to a crossover phase against teams finishing in corresponding positions from the opposite group.

Following these matches, an overall standings table will determine the medal contests:

First vs Second – Gold Medal Match

Third vs Fourth – Bronze Medal Match

This format guarantees every team multiple matches while ensuring the strongest performers reach the medal rounds.

Huge Opportunity for Associate Cricket

Perhaps the biggest winners from the qualification system are the rapidly improving Associate Members. With only six (6) teams participating and qualification no longer solely dependent on traditional cricket powerhouses, countries such as Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Nepal, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Canada and others now have a genuine pathway to Olympic qualification if they perform consistently throughout the qualification cycle.

For many emerging cricket nations, reaching the Olympics would represent the biggest achievement in their cricketing history.

Every ICC Event Now Matters

Unlike previous global tournaments where qualification often depended on a single event, the road to Los Angeles places greater importance on sustained performances across the ICC calendar. Ranking points, regional tournaments and qualification events will all play crucial roles in deciding which six (6) nations eventually walk onto the Olympic field in July 2028.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the Europe qualification pathway for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, featuring three (3) sub-regional qualification events (Sub-regional Qualifier A, Sub-regional Qualifier B and Sub-regional Qualifier C) to be staged across Cyprus, Denmark and Finland in 2026. Denmark Cricket Federation (DCF) will be hosting their first-ever ICC senior level event after the successful hosting of the U19 Europe Qualifier in 2024.

Denmark Cricket will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Belgium, Estonia, Gibraltar, Hungary, Norway, Romania, Serbia and Türkiye in the tournament from July 08th – 15th,2026. All the teams have been divided into two (2) groups, which will follow a single round-robin group stage format, followed by the Semifinals and the FINAL. Scotland, who were originally scheduled to take part in this tournament, will no longer do so, on account of them replacing Bangladesh in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.

Cricket Scotland (CS) will be hosting the Men’s National Teams of Canada and United Arab Emirates for an ODI Tri-series from August 03rd – 13th, 2026, which will be the twenty-first (21st) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

As per the original Men’s Associate FTP, T20Is (either a Tri-series or Bi-lateral) were scheduled as part of each Tri-series in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship, but it depends on the participating boards on their own arrangements, as it is not part of ICC funding.
