Both Iceland and Switzerland are currently in the UK to play in a two-match 50-overs contests at St Georges college ground in Waybridge, Surrey. The matches being Iceland’s first ever 50-overs International matches has garnered a big amount of attention over the past few months and the players put forward a grand show for the spectators in the field to win their maiden International 50-overs game.
After notching up a mammoth 330/7 in their 50 overs batting first, Iceland bowled out Switzerland for only 115 in the 27th over to set up a big margin victory of 215 runs. Dushan Bandara was adjudged the man of the match for which swashbuckling knock of 134 runs off only 105 deliveries.
Dushan’s effort with the bat was well complimented by the bowlers in the form of Sadun Lankathilaka (4/39) and David Cook (3/21) in the 2nd innings. Switzerland’s total was brought some respectability by a 40-runs partnership for the 8th wicket between Farid Din (21 n.o off 46) and Pardeep Kumar (27 off 29), which saved some blushes after they were reduced to 64/7 at one stage.
Dasun was given good support in the middle by Derick Deonarain (61 off 88) and Lakmal Bandara (39 off 25). Adam Pratt (2/61) was the pick of the bowlers for Switzerland. The match was played within the ICC ODI rules as both countries look to secure Associate membership in the near future.
