Rapids sign up Nepal’s Lamichhane for 2021 Vitality Blast season

Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane will be donning the blue colors of Worcestershire Rapids team in the 2021 edition of ECB’s Vitality Blast T20 competition, Worcestershire Rapids are a former winner of the Vitality Blast competition, having won the 2018 edition of the T20 league.

Lamichhane has represented Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League, Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes in Australia’s Big Bash, plus Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League, Nangarhar Leopards in the Afghanistan Premier League and three sides in the Caribbean Premier League. He is already known to the club’s Rikki Wessels, who played alongside him for Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League.

Lamichhane and Australia’s Ben Dwarshuis are the two overseas professionals for the Rapids for the 2021 season, and are both available for the full duration of the tournament’s group-stages. Lamichhane has already played more than 100 T20 games (if matches played in Nepal’s franchise T20 leagues are counted), picking up more than 150+ wickets in the process.

Head Coach Alex Gidman said in the official press release “Sandeep has played in many tournaments and gained a lot of experience in franchise cricket. He’s a leg spinner, which is a bit of mystery spin we believe we need in our squad in terms of balance, so we are ecstatic with the signing.”

Sandeep will have an extended stay in England in 2021, having also been drafted by the Oval Invincibles squad for the inaugural edition of the “Hundred” competition.
