Malawi appoint former Ireland International as Head Coach for 3 years

Former Ireland International Andre Botha has been appointed as the Head Coach for Malawi National squad for the next three years. Malawi Cricket Union announced his appointment on their twitter handle.

Andre Botha has represented Ireland in the 2007 and 2011 50-overs ICC World Cup’s and the 2008 and 2010 ICC WorldT20 tournaments. Botha is currently a level 3 coach with Cricket South Africa and oversees managing/coaching roles in the country. Botha made his Ireland ODI debut against England in 2006 and retired after Ireland’s campaign ended in the 2011 ICC World Cup with the match against West Indies his final ODI appearance in Irish colours.

South African born Andre Botha played provincial cricket for Griqualand West before representing Ireland in 42 ODI’s and 14 T20I’s. He will be taking up the role of Malawi Head coach from the end of Apr 2018.

As part of his appointment, Botha will be working with both Malawi Cricket Union and the Cricket Academy in Malawi into spreading the game into various regions in the country in the next three years and coach the Malawi National squad for their upcoming ICC Africa sub-regionals qualifiers for ICC WorldT20 in 2020.

MCU President Vivek Ganesan said “we had tremendous interest in this role from high caliber people from all parts of the cricket world and following meticulous deliberation the board appointed Andre.”
