Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) have announced their 14-member Women’s national squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa regional qualifiers in Botswana from September 07th – 20th, 2021. Nigeria Women will be part of the 11-nation tournament, from which the winner will advance directly to the global qualifiers, but the 2nd place finish in the tournament will have equal importance, as the best 2nd placed finish among all the regional qualifiers (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and East Asia-Pacific) will take the final spot in the 10-nation global qualifiers.
Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) will be hosting Women’s teams from Zimbabwe, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Cameroon, Mozambique, Nigeria and Swaziland during the tournament, which will be live streamed by ICC (ICC TV), in collaboration with IMG Media on their digital channels. Group A includes host’s Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, while Group B includes Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
Nigeria Women have played International cricket in 2021, when they took part in the 5-nation Kwibuka Memorial Women’s T20I tournament held in Rwanda in June. Nigeria Women played against the host’s Namibia, Botswana and Kenya during the competition. Blessing Etim will be leading the side in the Africa qualifiers, while the absence of Samantha Agazuma will be felt as she is recovering from her knee surgery.
