Papua New Guinea succumb to 10 wickets defeat against Zimbabwe in ICC U-19 World Cup

Papua New Guinea U-19 started their campaign in the ICC U-19 World Cup on a losing note as the were beaten convincingly by 10 wickets by Zimbabwe U-19 in the first of the group matches on 13th Jan 2018.

PNG U-19 began their innings on a positive note with a 41 runs partnership but then collapsed amazingly by losing all of their wickets adding another 54 runs to get bowled out for only 95 runs in their 20 overs. The match was reduced to a 20-overs contest after rain delayed the start of the match on time.

Igo Mahuru (26 off 26) and Ovia Sam (24 n.o off 23) stood among the ruins as Zimababwe’s spin duo of Wesley Madhevere (3/19) & Milton Shumba (2/19) wrecked the top and middle order of PNG batting line-up. The seamers then wrapped up the tail to end PNG’s innings in shambles.

Madhevere topped-up his 3-wicket spell with a 42-ball half-century to remain unbeaten on 53, while his opening partner, Gregory Dollar, also remained unbeaten on 41 to take their side to victory in the 14th over.
