Sierra Leone Women’s squad announced for T20 World Cup Africa qualifiers

Sierra Leone Cricket (SLCA) have announced their 14-member Women’s national squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa regional qualifiers in Botswana from September 07th – 20th, 2021. Sierra Leone Women will be part of the 11-nation tournament, from which the winner will advance directly to the global qualifiers, but the 2nd place finish in the tournament will have equal importance, as the best 2nd placed finish among all the regional qualifiers (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and East Asia-Pacific) will take the final spot in the 10-nation global qualifiers.

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) will be hosting Women’s teams from Zimbabwe, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Cameroon, Mozambique, Nigeria and Malawi during the tournament, which will be live streamed by ICC, in collaboration with IMG Media on their digital channels. Group A includes host’s Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, while Group B includes Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

The chosen players in the squad took part in inter-squad matches held in the month of July 2021 in the T20 format games. The Women’s team last played at an International tournament was back in August 2019, when they took part in the Botswana 7s Women’s T20I competition, and hence have prior experience of playing in Botswana and against countries, whom they will meet during the group stages.
