CWC League 2 and Challenge League cycle to continue for 2027 World Cup qualification

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification pathway program events, CWC League 2 Championship and CWC Challenge League groups (A & B), will continue for the cycle towards qualification for the 2027 event being hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. After the scrapping of the ODI Super League for the 2027 cycle, Netherlands join the CWC League 2 competition structure. The Men’s national squads of Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Nepal, Namibia, United States of America, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada will be the eight (8) countries will be part of the 2024-2027 cycle of CWC League 2 Championship, with UAE and Canada having secured their spots in the Championship by finishing above Jersey and Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the 2023 CWC Qualifier play-off tournament in Namibia in March/April 2023. Jersey and PNG will be getting into the Challenge League cycle in the next cycle.

The Challenge League Play-off qualifier, which was hosted by Malaysia Cricket in February 2024, featured teams from Italy, Bermuda, Malaysia, Vanuatu, Kuwait, Bahrain, Tanzania and Saudi Arabia, from which the top four (4) teams joined the Challenge League groups A and B for the 2027 qualification cycle. Both Challenge League groups will have three (3) rounds each, with all teams in each group getting to play fifteen (15) List-A games and at the end of which, the top two (2) teams from both the groups will advance to the CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament (which will be played with ODI status).

The top four (4) teams in the points table, at the end of 24 rounds of ODI Tri-series (a total of 144 ODIs), will qualify directly into the CWC Qualifier, while the bottom four (4) teams in CWC League 2 will join with the four (4) teams from CWC Challenge League (Top 2 from each group) to constitute the CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, from which the top four (4) teams will advance to the CWC Qualifier.

In an update provided during the ICC Board meeting in May 2026, all the twelve (12) Teams in the Challenge League competitions can now play against CWC League 2 Teams and within themselves, 50-overs format matches with List-A status.

Jersey Cricket to host Nepal and UAE Men for OD series in July 2026

Jersey Cricket will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Nepal and United Arab Emirates in separate bi-lateral One-day series in July 2026, comprising of two (2) matches each, at the at NCC Grainville cricket ground. Nepal Men will play their matches with the host on 13th and 15th, before travelling to Netherlands for Round 20 of 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI Championship.

The fixtures between UAE and the hosts’ will be taking place on 27th and 29th. UAE Team will then travel to Scotland for Round 21 of 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI Championship. Jersey and Nepal will be meeting for the first time in the 50-overs format, and the matches are eligible for List-A status, after the ICC update was announced on 01st June 2026 regarding Challenge League participating teams being allowed to play List-A status matches outside of only the Challenge League rounds.

Jersey and UAE have already met once in ODIs, during the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off Tournament held in Namibia.

Cricket Nepal to host UAE and Oman for ODI/T20I series in April/May 2026

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will be hosting the Men’s National teams from United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman for an ODI Tri-series from April 21st – May 05th, 2026, which will be the sixteenth (16th) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

The Tri-series was originally scheduled for March 2026, but got postponed due to ongoing conflicts in the West Asia region, due to which the teams of Oman and UAE were unable to travel to Nepal. UAE Men will be playing two (2) T20 International matches (with ICC T20I team ranking points) with Nepal to start their tour on April 20th and 21st, 2026.

As per the original Men’s Associate FTP, T20Is (either a Tri-series or Bi-lateral) were scheduled as part of each Tri-series in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship, but it depends on the participating boards on their own arrangements, as it is not part of ICC funding.

Cricket Namibia to host Uganda Men for T20/OD series in March 2026

Cricket Namibia (CN) will be hosting the Men’s National team of Uganda for a multi-format, white-ball series, from March 16th – 26th, 2026 at the FNB Namibia cricket ground in Windhoek. This series continues the partnership between the two (2) cricket boards, which has seen bi-lateral series being played between the teams on an annual basis. This year’s series will comprise of three (3) T20 format matches and two (2) matches in the 50-overs format.

Uganda Men, who start their International season with this tour, have important ICC Global event qualification pathway tournaments, that includes the third (3rd) and final round of ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B in August 2026 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup through the Africa Sub-Regional Qualifiers in Nigeria in October 2026.

The T20 matches and one 50-overs match will be played between Uganda and Namibia A squad, while the senior team will play two (2) 50-overs matches with Uganda. Namibia Men will start their preparations towards the seventeenth (17th) round of ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI Championship at home in April 2026.

World Cup Path in Focus as Hong Kong Prepare to Face Kuwait at Home

Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK) will be hosting the Men’s National team of Kuwait for a multi-format white ball bi-lateral series between February 25th – March 07th, 2026. The series will comprise of four (4)-match T20 International games (with ICC Team ranking points) and three (3)-match games in the 50-overs format. The tour builds on the landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Kuwait Cricket and Hong Kong Cricket in July 2025, aimed at fostering long-term collaboration and development, and will be known as the “Bauhinia Falcon Trophy” series.

With both the Teams having a busy schedule this year in 2027 ICC Men’s CWC Challenge League competition, ACC Asia Cup (50-overs) qualification, 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub-regional pathway tournaments, and the Asian Games, the series will begin their preparations towards them. Kabir Khan, Head Coach & GM – High Performance & Technical, Kuwait Cricket, said “I am honored to begin my journey with Kuwait Cricket through an international series of this stature. Tanzania Cricket to host final round of CWC Challenge League Group B in August/September

Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) will be hosting the third (3rd) and the final round 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League Group B in August/September 2026 (Tournament dates TBA). TCA will host the Men’s National teams of Bahrain, Hong Kong-China, Italy, Singapore and Uganda in the last of the three (3) scheduled rounds for both the groups, at the conclusion of which the top two (2) teams from both the groups will advance to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off tournament.

Uganda and Italy are well placed in the group after the conclusion of the first two (2) rounds, with Hong Kong, China being the next closest competitor to both, with Bahrain at a very distant fourth place. If both Uganda and Italy manage a good third (3rd) round and finish the group in top two (2) spots, then they will become the 26th and 27th Team to play Men’s ODI status matches (Jersey became the 25th Nation after the previous cycle of CWC Challenge League) in the 2027 ICC CWC Qualifier play-off tournament. Host’s Tanzania and Singapore are already out of contention for a shot at the top 2 finish.

Four spots from Global Qualifiers into 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup

The qualification pathway for the fourteen (14)-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 was confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC) with ten (10) teams gaining automatic qualification. The ten (10) will comprise South Africa and Zimbabwe as Full Member host’s and the next eight (8) highest ranked teams on the ICC MRF Tyres ODI Rankings at the cut-off date of 31st March 2027. The remaining four (4) teams will qualify via the ICC CWC Global Qualifier set to take place in April/May 2027, which might see Namibia Men qualify to play in (depending upon their final finishing positions in the qualification pathway events), who are also co-hosting the event along with South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The top four (4) teams in the points table from CWC League 2 ODI Championship will qualify directly for the CWC Qualifier. They will be joined in the CWC Qualifier by four (4) teams coming through the CWC Qualifier Play-Offs as well as teams (2 of them) that don’t qualify automatically based on ICC ODI Rankings. The CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament (which will be played with ODI status) will comprise of the bottom four (4) teams in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship and the top two (2) teams from both Groups A and B from CWC Challenge League. The top four (4) teams in the Qualifier will then join the ten (10) direct qualifiers in the World Cup (Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe and the other top eight ranked teams) in the fourteen (14) team Cricket World Cup lineup.

Cricket Canada (CC) will be hosting the Men’s National teams from Scotland and Namibia for an ODI Tri-series from August 27th – September 06th, 2025, which will be the fourteenth (14th) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

Cricket Canada are also using the opportunity to provide competitive exposure for their A squad players through their High Performance One-day program, with matches scheduled with Namibia, before the start of the ODI Tri-series, which in turn provides warm-up for the Namibian Team.

Currently, it is unknown if there will be a T20I Tri-series or Bi-lateral T20Is between the teams after the conclusion of the ODI Tri-series. Cricket Scotland (CS) will be hosting the Men’s National teams from Netherlands and Nepal for an ODI Tri-series from June 02nd – 12th, 2025, which will be the thirteenth (13th) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

All the three (3) teams will compete in a T20 International Tri-series (with ICC team ranking points) from June 15th – 20th, 2025 in a double round-robin format. The T20I Tri-series will be the perfect opportunity for both Scotland and Netherlands teams to prepare themselves before the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in July 2025 in Netherlands. Nepal Men’s team under their new Head Coach, will also take this opportunity to start preparing themselves for the Asia-EAP Qualifier in Oman, later this year.
