Team USA take on Leeward Islands in CWI Super50 opener

Team USA begin their journey in Cricket West Indies Super50 regional tournament as they take on Leeward Islands in their first group match at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on 31st Jan 2018.

USA will get to play 8 group matches across 20 days of the Super50 tournament and Head Coach Pubudu Dassanayeke feels the experience will help USA for their forthcoming ICC tournament in 2018, the Regional Qualifiers for ICC World T20 and ICC WCL Division 3. If they progress beyond the group stage, their matches in the play-off’s will be broadcasted Live on TV by ESPN in the Caribbean/Americas region. Their group matches will be streamed live on CWI website.

Dassanayeke was the coach for the ICC Americas team in the last year’s edition and with Canada busy in ICC WCL Division 2 during the same time in Namibia, the opportunity for USA came along and he feels that this was a brilliant case for further development for the USA squad, who returned back to USA recently from their tour’s to UAE & Oman.

Club Cricket in USA has been in place for several years and it’s slow nature in terms of development of players makes it hard for USA, when they play in ICC tournaments and hence, a chance to play in the Elite Domestic 50-overs competition in West Indies is exactly the kind of exposure USA players are looking out for.

USA are placed in Group B of the 10-team tournament along with Leeward Islands, Guyana, Jamaica & English County Club, Kent. For Squad and USA match schedules, click here.
