Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) have partnered with IPG group to launch a new domestic franchise-based T20 league in the country, with the inaugural edition set to take place in June/July 2023. The Malaysian T20 League will have five (5) teams compete for the title, with four (4) Malaysian players set to be part of the playing XI for all the teams in all the matches in the tournament.
IPG Group are the organizers for Lanka Premier League (LPL T20) in Sri Lanka, and hope to achieve similar success in Malaysia with this new venture, which bodes well for the growth of the sport in the country, with domestic players getting the opportunity to play alongside overseas professionals. Prior to this, the board were organizing regular MCA T20 series at home for the players every year.
