Associates take center-stage in Euro T20 Slam player draft

The player draft for the inaugural Euro T20 Slam took place on 19th Jul 2019 in London. The joint T20 franchise-based league in collaboration between Cricket Ireland, Scotland Cricket and Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB) is the first major of it’s kind in European T20 circuit, except England’s Vitality T20 Blast.

As per the draft rules, each team has a pre-drafted Icon Player and one Marquee Player before going to the main Player’s Draft. A maximum of seven International Players (5 compulsory + 2 supplementary) were picked at the main Players’ Draft, followed by nine local Board player’s draft. Hence, a franchise team can have a maximum of 18 players and a minimum of 16.

Cricket Boards of Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands nominated 18 players into the local players draft. These 18 players were drafted respectively by only the country-based franchises. Hence, Scotland players were picked up by Edinburgh Rocks and Glasgow Giants, while Ireland players were picked up by Dublin Chiefs and Belfast Titans, and the Dutch players were picked up by Amsterdam Knights and Rotterdam Rhinos.

The player draft was streamed Live on Euro T20 Slam facebook page.
