Ireland U19 to prepare for World Cup Qualifiers via Future series in June/July 2021

Cricket Ireland have launched a new pathway program for grooming and development of players under 25 years of age called the Future Series, which will commence from June 28th 2021 and will conclude on 26th July 2021.

Ireland U19 team will be one of the five teams that will take part in the competition, along with teams from the four Provincial Unions. The competition will involve 20 matches, with each team playing eight matches that involves four 45-over matches and four T20 matches, and will see all the teams play each other once in each format.

Richard Holdsworth, Cricket Ireland High Performance Director said in the press release about the inclusion of the U19 team “The inclusion of the Ireland Under-19s team will also work as an opportunity to pit our youth players against stronger opposition, and act as an opportunity to show provincial and national selectors their skills and abilities, as well as prepare them for the ICC Under-19s World Cup Qualifier.”

Ireland U19 will compete in the qualifiers in Scotland against teams from Scotland, Denmark, Guernsey, Jersey and Netherlands from 30th July – 05th August 2021, for the lone qualification spot into the 2022 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. Ireland played in the 2018 edition, while Scotland played in the 2020 edition of the World Cup from the European region.
