Zimbabwe Women to host South Africa emerging in OD series

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) have announced that the senior Women’s squad will play a five-match series in the 50-overs format against the visiting South African Emerging side in Bulawayo from May 18th – 26th.

Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo will host all the five matches in the series, which will mark the return of the senior squad, after the Pakistan women tour of Zimbabwe was called-off after just one match early this year, as Emirates Airlines decided to suspend its flight operations on the Harare-Dubai route between February 13th – 28th, owing to COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The five matches will take place on 18th, 20th, 22nd, 24th and 26th May, as Zimbabwe Women prepare for the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in December 2021 in Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe squad is missing a lot of key players that includes Mary-Anne Musonda and Ashley Ndiraya due to injury concerns, while Chipo Mugeri and Nomatter Mutasa are on maternity leaves. Sharne Mayers and Anesu Mushangwe are currently playing overseas and were not considered for selection in the squad for the series.

Zimbabwe Women players played inter-squad practice games in the past couple of months apart from the domestic T20 and 50-overs competitions, where all the selected players in the squad played each other in 50-overs games as part of Northerns and Southerns series.
