Romania’s Cluj Cricket Club were crowned Champions of the inaugural 2018 Transylvania Cricket League, after their win over Balkan Nomads CC in the Final at Moara Vlasiei ground in Bucharest.
The final turned out to be a one-sided affair as Cluj CC dominated the game in both the batting and bowling departments. batting first, Cluj notched up an impressive 186/3 in their 20 overs and then bundled out Balkan Nomads for only 105 runs in the 19th over to win the game by a big margin of 81 runs.
Taranjeet Singh was the star with the bat for Cluj in the final with a stroke-filled knock of 85 runs and along with fellow opener, Satwik Nadigotla (57) put on an opening partnership of 144 runs, which gave Cluj CC a big advantage over Balkan Nomads. Vasu Saini (21 n.o) played a handy cameo towards the end of the innings to take the total to 186 in the end.
Sukhran Singh Sangha (4/30) produced a match winning spell for Cluj as none of the Balkan Nomads batsmen could take the initiative and pose a threat to the target placed in front of them. Taranjeet Singh capped off a perfect day for himself at the office by picking up 2 wickets with the ball to go with this top scoring knock earlier while batting. Ijaz Hussain (26) and Sadiq Khan (25) were the only batsmen from Balkan Nomads, who managed to stay at the crease for a while but after their dismissal, it all fell apart for them.
Taranjeet Singh was adjudged the Man of the Tournament for his all-round display in the event with both bat and ball for Cluj CC. There was special recognition given to the groundsman, Nelu, for his efforts in getting the ground match-ready during the tournament.
The final capped off an exciting few days of T20 action at Moara Vlasiei, which will soon be in action once again when Romania host’s Russia, Bulgaria and Turkey for the 2018 Continental Cup from Jul 06th – 08th, 2018.
