Cricket resumes in Jersey with first trial game held at Farmers

Following the Government’s directive in Jersey to move into level two of lock-down from 12th June, which allowed for training and modified matches to be played in groups of up to 40 people with Strict hygiene and distancing measures in place, Jersey Cricket made the move to play a friendly trial match at Farmers CC between Jersey Under-20’s and Over-20’s to test the new COVID regulations.

With the success of hosting the match with measures in place, Jersey Cricket Board have further planned two more trial matches on 20th and 23rd Jun 2020, with a view of being able to commence domestic cricket season (Evening and Weekend Leagues) in Jul 2020. The two teams which played the trial match consisted of players from both senior and junior Jersey Internationals along with other domestic players.

The match itself went down to the final ball, with Under-20’s putting up a strong performance, having put up 121 runs on board losing 6 wickets in the process, but eventually going down to the Over-20’s, who won the game by 5 wickets. Zak Tribe with 42 runs and  Julius Sumerauer with 29 runs were the major contributors to the U20’s team total. Jersey national squad captain Charles Perchard had a decent game with returns of a wicket and 12 runs while batting to his name.

With neighbors Guernsey having already hosted a trial game and two more games slated for 20th Jun 2020 and having the plans of resuming domestic season towards the end of Jun, cricket will be back in the domestic circuit in both the countries and hopefully, the PraxisFM Channel Islands League will also be organized later this year, depending upon the travel situations.
