There was improvement in terms of performances by domestic player of Nepal on Day 3 of action from 2018 RUSLAN Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) 2. There was surprise in store for Team Chauraha Dhangadhi fans, as UAE’s national player and opener Ashfaq Ahmed, came out to open their innings as he became the team’s second import from UAE, the first being their national captain Rohan Mustafa, who played today’s match after missing the first one due to travel. And he made his presence count for Team Chauraha Dhangadhi, as he guided the side to victory chasing a sub-par total of 150 set by CYC Attariya.
Well, not entirely. But it was Nepal’s own seasoned campaigner, Sompal Kami, who played a heluva knock to knock out CYC Attariya from the game in the final stages of the match. A 15-ball innings with a strike rate of 260, that’s what is called a T20 finisher’s innings. Nepal youngsters, again, the lot being the bowlers, did good job from both the sides to keep things interesting till the final over of the match. A good sign as Nepal players generally take 2-3 matches to come into their own as shown in the last few tournaments they have taken part in. Definitely, we could expect more in the coming days in #DPLT20.
The 2nd game of the day saw a pretty one-sided affair as a target of above-par 180 was a tad bit too much for the chasing team to achieve. Kathmandu Goldens registered a comprehensive 63 runs victory over Rupandehi Challengers and that too, after Rupandehi knocked off 70-odd runs in the 9th over with Amit Shreshtha going berserk all around the park. His wicket simply started a chain of wickets falling regularly on both sides as their challenge faded away in the Dhangadhi evening.
Rashaid Khan (yes, sounds familiar and definitely not him) announced himself on the DPL scenes with a 4-for and the others in the Kathmandu Goldens attack came good in a cohesive display of defending big totals. Hopefully, they can continue the trend in the batting department to bat out their opposition, as the league progresses.
Kathmandu Goldens have opened up a lead of 2 points at the top of the points table but it’s still early days for the rest of the teams and everyone is very much capable to mount a challenge for the top of the points table as the tourney goes along.
2018 RUSLAN Dhangadhi Premier League 2 Points Table:
