Women’s national squads of Ireland and Scotland will be travelling to La Manga in Spain in November 2020 to play a series of five matches comprising of 50-overs and T20I games.

Steven Knox, head coach, said on Cricket Scotland website “The squad are both delighted and excited that they will be playing an international series in Spain against Ireland this November.

“It will give the players a great opportunity to show that all the hard work they’ve done in training over the past ten months, and in the A team games that were played in August and September, will hopefully pay off against a team that are ranked above us in T20I cricket.”

The exact dates for the matches to be played between November 20th and 29th will be announced in due course of time, with two matches in 50-overs format and three T20I games. Both Ireland and Scotland players have been playing domestic cricket at home and games in England (Scotland A squad played few matches) in the past couple of months as International cricket has remained absent due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Scotland national squad members Sarah and Kathryn Bryce performed admirably with strong numbers to their names in the recently concluded Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy (List-A) in England, while Ireland players had a 8-game domestic series played between them in the 50-overs format as well.

Squads

At the begining of the 2020 domestic List-A women’s competition in England, the opportunity for Scotland’s Sarah Bryce and Kathryn

At the begining of the 2020 domestic List-A women’s competition in England, the opportunity for Scotland’s Sarah Bryce and Kathryn Bryce for the Lightning squad was a welcome move, considering their performances over the years for Scotland in International games and also in ECB’s women’s county championships.

And the Bryce sisters have ensured that their names will not go unnoticed by any means possible, as both Sarah and Kathryn have put up quite a solid show during the Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy . It will be impossible to ignore them when the competition comes around next year and this year’s performance alone should earn them mentions for stint in WBBL (women’s Big Bash League), if not for this season but definitely next.

So dominant have the sisters been in the tournament during the group stages, that Sarah Bryce is currently sitting pretty as the 2nd highest run-scorer in the competition with 395 runs to her name from 6 innings played for Lightning . These include four half-centuries and a magnificent century in the final group game against Central Sparks, as she scored as best List-A record and remained unbeaten on 136.

Sarah Bryce in action for Lightning during her knock of 136 n.o against Central Sparks in 2020 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy – Image by Ben Lumley @bensnapsstuff (Twitter)

Her impressive run included a 52 in the opening game against Thunder, that included the likes of Kate Cross, Alex Hartley and Sophie Ecclestone in the bowling ranks, as ECB allowed the national squad members to play the first two rounds of the competition. The 2nd match saw her score 57 runs, against the likes of Katherine Brunt, Nat Sciver and Jenny Gunn in the bowling ranks for Northern Diamonds team.

All her runs while opening the innings for Lightning is a massive achievement for the 20-year old keeper-batswoman. And while Sarah was on a run-making spree, Kathryn was on a spree of her own with the ball in hand, and has topped the wicket-taking charts, with 14 scalps to her name from 6 innings.

Kathryn, who has led Lightning in the competition, took a 4-for and 5-for during the group stages, with her best figures of 5/29 coming against Northern Diamonds team. Her all-round capabilities were on display as he raked up 141 runs as well along with her bowling accolades. She also had the opportunity to bowl to England’s national women’s squad members during the first two rounds of the competition, including the likes of Lauren Winfield, Nat Sciver, Sophie Ecclestone and other prominent players in the domestic circuit.

Scotland women will be taking part in the rescheduled ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers in 2021, and the Bryce sisters will be the back-bone of the squad set-up and will be expected to lead their campaign in search of a spot in the World Cup (3 spots on offer from the qualifiers).

Cricket Scotland have announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming round 3 of ICC CWC League 2 Championship in UAE

Cricket Scotland have announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming round 3 of ICC CWC League 2 Championship in UAE from Dec 09th – 15th, 2019. Scotland hosted the first round of the Championship earlier this year, featuring Papua New Guinea and Oman.

Scotland were in UAE for almost 3 weeks in Oct/Nov 2019 for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, and have a good knowledge of the conditions to expect during the ODI Tri-series, which also involves USA. Both Scotland and USA are currently at the top of the points table, after winning three of their competed four games in League 2 Championship so far.

Scotland Squad

Kyle Coetzer (Captain), Richie Berrington, Dylan Budge, Matthew Cross, Josh Davey, Alasdair Evans, Michael Jones, Calum MacLeod, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Hamza Tahir, Craig Wallace, Mark Watt & Stuart Whittingham

Scotland will play two matches each at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and ICC Academy Oval 1 ground during the tournament. Spinners Tom Sole and Michael Leask and pacer Adrian Neill miss out from the Qualifiers squad, while the availability of Josh Davey will be a good boost to the 50-overs line-up for the Scots.

Scotland Schedule

09th Dec 2019: USA v Scotland (Sharjah Cricket Stadium)
