Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane was not picked up by any franchise in the 2021 VIVO IPL player auctions held in Chennai on 18th February 2021. After completing a 3-year contracted tenure with Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Sandeep was part of the IPL player auctions in 2021.
Similarly, Ali Khan from USA, Karthik Meiyappan from UAE and Tim David from Singapore were not picked up by any franchise during the player auction. Ali Khan was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders during 2020 IPL event as a replacement pick for Harry Gurney, but unfortunately Ali Khan was injured during practice sessions and had to withdraw from the tournament. Ali Khan has been part of the Title winning Trinbago Knight Riders squad for two years now and with KKR being the owners of the franchise, had led to speculation that he might have got picked up during the auction.
Tim David had a superb season with Perth Scorchers in the 2020/2021 Big Bash League in Australia, but remained unsold during the auction. While Sandeep and David were presented on the table for the franchises to have a look at them, Ali Khan and Meiyappan were not able to come to the main auction board itself to have franchises bid for them.
Sandeep received the sole bid from Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 player auction for his base price of INR 10 lakhs, which resulted him in playing for the franchise from 2018-2020 and gained much needed experience and exposure in playing professional leagues. Since playing in the 2018 edition of IPL, Sandeep Lamichhane has become a regular T20 franchise league globe-trotter, having played in Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, Global T20 Canada, Afghanistan Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League and others.
We @Czarsportz got the prediction right on Twitter when he was part of the player auction process in 2018, when Delhi Daredevils picked him up for his base price of INR 10 lakhs. Sandeep entered his name in the 2021 player auctions with a base price of INR 40 lakhs.
