Michigan Cricket Stars recruits former Dolphins/Cape Cobras all-rounder for MiLC

Former Dolphins and Cape Cobras (franchises in South African domestic circuit) all-rounder Calvin Savage have joined a growing list of players from the country signing up to play in USA Cricket and American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) joint-venture tournament, the Minor Cricket League.

Savage has signed up with the MiLC (Minor Cricket League) franchise Michigan Cricket Stars for a 3-year period contract, which will see him play for the team in the inaugural edition slated to take place in 2021, with an eye on impressing the franchise owners of Major League Cricket (MLC) and get the chance to play in that tournament in 2022.

Savage joins the likes of Dane Piedt, David White, Andries Gous, Corne Dry and Shadley van Schalkwyk in the past few months to have signed up to play in Minor Cricket League, and were recently involved in action during the Houston Open T20 tournament and the following one-day series between USA Cricket’s training squad and MLC (Major League Cricket) select squads.

“I feel like I have given it a fair go in South African cricket. I had tried to make it happen, to play for South Africa. But I just didn’t see that happening. If it was going to happen, it would have happened by now.” Savage told Club Cricket SA in an interview.

The Minor League Cricket competition will feature 24 teams from six regions – New York, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Atlanta. Michigan Cricket Stars feature in the Central Conference region in the MiLC, and also has Cricket Canada national squad member Nitish Kumar signed up in the squad.
