In a major career exposure for Scotland’s World Cup qualifier squad member, Safyaan Sharif, English County Club Derbyshire has signed him for the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup and Vitality T20 Blast competitions.
Sharif has represented Scotland in 35 ODI’s and 42 T20I’s so far and was the leading wicket-taker in 2018 ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe along with Afghanistan’s Mujeeb ur Rahman and Rashid Khan with 17 wickets from 7 matches at an impressive average of 13.94 and strike-rate of 21.6 deliveries per wicket.
Derbyshire County’s Cricket Advisor Kim Barnett said on club’s website “With a busy few months of white ball cricket coming up, we wanted to strengthen and provide more depth to our fast bowling department.
“We’ve been monitoring Sharif for a while. He is a talented quick bowler and he showed this winter with Scotland that he has the ability to take wickets and perform to a high standard.”
Sharif is also an active member of Scottish Cricketers Association (SCA). This will be a big opportunity for Sharif to showcase his talents in white-ball cricket in English County season and especially the Vitality Blast, which could pave the way for more opportunities in the global T20 circuit.
