Nigeria & Mozambique enter ICC U19 Africa Div2 semifinals

After the conclusion of group phase matches in Group B of ICC U19 CWC Africa Division 2 in Potchefstroom comprising of U19 team’s from Nigeria, Mozambique, Ghana & Lesotho, the first two nations in the list above have qualified for the semifinals of the tournament.

Nigeria U19 remained unbeaten throughout the group stage after big margin victories over all the other team’s in the group. They ended their group fixtures routing Lesotho U19 for only 46 runs and chasing it down in the 7th over, losing only 1 wicket.

Ghana and Mozambique competed in their final group fixture which was literally the knock-out game for both the team’s and Mozambique U19 prevailed eventually, bowling out Ghana U19 for 99 runs and lost 4 wickets en-route to reaching 100 in the 22nd over.

Nigeria U19 bowlers Peter Aho (7/16 from 2 matches) , Isaac Danladi (5/11 from 3 matches), Ifeanyichukwu Uboh (4/7 in 2 matches), Mohameed Taiwo (4/20 from 3 matches) and Rasheed Abolarin (4/31 from 2 matches) have been dominating the batsmen in their group. Mohameed Taiwo is the leading scorer for Nigeria U19 with 95 runs from 3 matches.

Frederico Carava (5/64 from 3 matches), Jose Bulele (5/45 from 3 matches) & Alex Conwana (4/23 from 3 matches) are the leading bowlers for Mozambique U19 so far with Joao Huo (58 runs from 3 matches) & Gomes Gomes (59 runs from 3 matches) being their top run-scorers in the league stages.

The format for the tournament was changed after the late withdrawals of both Gambia and Zambia, with top 2 team’s from both groups advancing to the semifinals; the finalists guaranteed entry into Africa Division 1 and the final qualification spot to be decided by the play-off for 3rd/4th between the losing semifinalists.
