There have been a lot of notable performances delivered by players from Associate countries under ICC in 2017.
The year started off with the Desert T20 tournament for Associate nations and ended with the World Cricket League Championship in Dec 2018, which has catapulted Netherlands as the #13 country in the ICC ODI League from 2020-2022.
There were lots of choices if one had to nail down the best possible XI from Associate countries for the whole year and after much consideration of performances throughout the year, Czarsportz brings you the 2017 Associate Men’s XI in 50-overs cricket (some names could be surprising folks, so get your thinking hats on as well):
2017 Men’s Associate XI in 50-overs:
1) Kyle Coetzer (Scotland)
2) Anshuman Rath (Hong Kong)
3) Wesley Barresi (Netherlands)
4) Babar Hayat (Hong Kong)
5) Roelof van der Merwe (Netherlands)
6) Patrick Matautaava (Vanuatu)
7) Mahuru Dai (Papua New Guinea)
8) Mohammad Naveed (UAE)
9) Sarel Burger (Namibia)
10) Ben Cooper (Netherlands)
11) Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal)
Others considered to be part of XI were Rohan Mustafa (UAE), Calum McLeod (Scotland), Nadeem Ahmed (Hong Kong), Aaqib Ilyas (Oman), Jonty Jenner (Jersey Islands), Collins Obuya (Kenya), Chetan Suryawanshi (Singapore), Virandeep Singh (Malaysia), Paul van Meekeren (Netherlands), Safyaan Sharif (Scotland) & few more…
Delray Rawlins (Bermuda), Michael Rippon (Netherlands) & Mark Chapman (Hong Kong) were not considered as they have been playing more domestic level competitions for Test countries with an ambition to switch over and have played very little cricket in the latter half of 2017 for their own countries.
