Papua New Guinea’s last 3 batting pairs frustrated Scotland bowlers as Jack Vare (42), Chad Soper (60) and Norman Vanua (64) ensured PNG reach a big total of 404 in 116.3 overs in the 1st innings of their ICC I-Cup match against the Scots.
Safyaan Sharif (4/94) and Michael Leask (2/40) were the pick of the bowlers for Scotland.
Scotland’s reply got off to a solid start with George Munsey and Kyle Coetzer (24) adding 64 for the first wicket. Munsey fell after making 53 runs with Calum McLeod unable to post a half-century and got out on 49 to Mahuru Dai’s spin. PNG managed to pick 4 wickets as Scotland finished on 189/4 in 63 overs to end the 2nd days play at Amini Park ground in Port Moresby.
Craig Wallace (12 n.o) and Ritchie Berrington (29 n.o) will continue on Day 3 with Scotland trailing PNG by 215 runs. Chad Soper and Mahuru Dai have picked up 2 wickets apiece so far for Barramundis.
