Indian Premier League (IPL) Franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed up Singapore national squad player Timothy David for the remainder of the edition, that will start from 19th September in United Arab Emirates. David replaces Fin Allen of New Zealand in the squad as part of the replacement players named by the franchise.
Tim has seen a mercurial rise in his T20 stock, having represented Peshawar Zalmi in 2021 PSL (which is also a factor in him getting picked up, having experience in playing in UAE conditions), along with stints with the Southern Brave [at the Hundred] team and England’s county club Surrey in the ongoing Royal London One-day Cup. He will also be seen shortly playing for St.Lucia Kings in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League (CPL T20). Tim has represented Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes in Australia’ Big Bash League and his performances for Singapore in T20I and List-A games has seen him get these opportunities in the past 12-18 months.
Tim has been in very good form in the Royal London One-day Cup recently, having scored two List-A centuries in the competition in the month of August 2021 (102 vs Gloucestershire and 140 n.o vs Warwickshire). Before he joined up with Surrey, he was for a brief period part of domestic league cricket competition in Netherlands. His last International appearance for Singapore was during the 2019 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers held in UAE in October/November.
As part of the RCB overseas quota, Tim will be joining up with the likes of AB de Villiers from South Africa, Glenn Maxwell from Australia, Kyle Jamieson from New Zealand and Daniel Christian from Australia, and his fellow replacement additions Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera from Sri Lanka in the squad. RCB will play their first match in the resumption of the tournament on 20th September against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
