Mauritius Cricket Federation, in a bid to promote and spur growth of the sport in the country has announced their inaugural marquee event, Mauritius Cric10 League, which will be played at Anjalay Stadium (multi-use stadium in Belle Vue Harel, Pamplemousses District) from 11th November to 20th November 2020. The tournament will be broadcast live on 1Sport channel, and is being organized by Quasar Sports Management in association with Royal Cricket Management.
Mauritius Cric10 League will be played in the 10-overs format and will see a host of former and current cricketers from Sri Lanka, West Indies, Canada, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and UAE take part in the competition. The inaugural edition of the T10 league will see six teams competing for the Title, namely Curepipe Crushers, Goodlands Riders, Mahebourg Storms, Saint Pierre Quakers, Bambous Raptors and Rose Hill Warriors.
“The League also aims at promoting Cricket talent in Mauritius & it will showcase at an International level how well Mauritius is an ideal destination for Cricket” said Ali Parkar, President, Mauritius Cricket Federation. The tournament is approved by Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Government of Mauritius. The Governing Council will also lay out the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which will in place to ensure safe conduct of this league and safety of players during COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the squads announced on the league’s Facebook page, current players from Afghanistan (International and domestic) are part of the league, with the likes of Muslim Musa, Shabbir Noori, Karim Sadiq, Batin Shah, Ali Mansoor, Nasir Omar and Waheedullah Shafaq expected to play in the tournament. Former Scotland Internationals Gavin Hamilton and John Blain are also named in the tournament roster along with many domestic and former International players from UAE.
