Shpageeza stars set to enthrall global T20 audiences in 2021 CPL

The next generation of Afghanistan superstars will be on show for global audiences to see when the 2021 edition of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) commences from August 28th to September 19th, 2021.

With the absence of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi due to International commitments, the players who have excelled in the domestic competitions in Afghanistan, that includes the marquee T20 tournament, Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL).

Left-arm wrist-spinner Waqar Salamkheil was picked up by Amazon Warriors in the CPL Draft, while leg-spinner Qais Ahmed was picked up by Barbados Tridents in the draft and young batsman Ibrahim Zadran was picked up by Jamaica Tallawahs in their squad. The surprise pick was that of Shafiqullah Ghafari by Barbados Tridents, who was the joint 2nd highest wicket-taker in the 2020 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

Other Afghanistan players chosen during the draft were Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was picked up by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Naveen-ul-Haq, who was picked up by Guyana Amazon Warriors. Qais, Gurbaz and Naveen already have experience of playing in franchise based T20 league, with the trio’s appearance in the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League (LPL) bringing them into the spotlight.
